SANTA MONICA, Calif. (KABC) -- The bright lights on the Santa Monica Pier Ferris wheel will go dark for 20 days as it gets a major upgrade.
The Ferris wheel is getting a lighting makeover. All of the 174,000 bulbs will be switched out, and a new LED system will be installed.
You can still ride it during the overhaul, which will cost approximately $1 million.
The new system will features lights with greater color depth, higher resolution and faster frames per second.
The lights are set to return May 26, just in time for the 20th anniversary of Pacific Park on the pier.
