Love and hip-hop lead sweethearts to launch sweet Sherman Oaks spot

SHERMAN OAKS, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- “This place is amazing,” Sophia de la Cruz said.

“My husband was first tempted. I mean, every time you walk by, you smell the cinnamon and you're like, ‘What's going on in there?’”

This Friday, we’re tasting what all the fuss is about in Sherman Oaks at All About the Cinnamon.

ABC7 Rachel Brown said she didn’t know if she’s ever been this excited.

Cinnamon rolls, in all sorts of fun flavors and sizes, like their gigantic cinnabun cake, which is super popular for celebrations.

Here, your cinnamon rolls come with a side of hip-hop.

The support for us as a small business means more to us than anything,” co-owner Lindsay McDonald said. “The people that tell other people that we even exist, that means the most to us for sure.”

The sweet idea to open a cinnamon roll shop swirled into the McDonalds’ minds during COVID.

These high school sweethearts wanted to spend more time together as a family, and have something to pass on to their teenage son.

Today, business is booming here on Van Nuys Boulevard, with celebrities and foodies near and far coming in for a bite.

“It blew my mind,” customer de la Cruz said. “It was literally the best cinnamon bun I've ever had.”

“People are also driving, like, hours to see us from different parts of LA,” Lindsay McDonald said. “We've had someone fly in from Florida, we've had someone fly from New York, Chicago, Texas. Yeah, it's been wild.”

The best seller is the “Big Poppa”; it’s your OG bun with cream cheese frosting.

The “Selena” sells out fast, and is their take on tres leches, a tribute to Latin culture.

To show some California love, order the PAC, a classic topped in chocolate sauce.

And Cardi B? It gets the butter pecan, because, well…

“She’s a little nuts,” co-owner Lawrence McDonald said, with a laugh. “Coming up with the flavor that would kind of embody the artists that we loved.”

Twenty-eight flavors and some freestyling, too, was music to my ears.

Plus, gluten free and vegan options, too.

Cinnabuns range in price from about $8 to $13.

In celebration of Juneteenth, All About the Cinnamon will offer a special sweet potato cinnamon roll.

That also have a special Father’s Day box you can preorder on their website.

The restaurant is closed Monday and Tuesday.

All About the Cinnamon is at 4341 Van Nuys Blvd., in Sherman Oaks.
