This hot spot in The Alley is fostering community with its cuisine.

MOORPARK, Calif. (KABC) -- Hearth is a cozy community hub.
In fact, I’d argue the restaurant is a hidden gem, tucked away in Moorpark’s hangout destination, “The Alley.”
“We want it to feel like a backyard barbecue, like we want it to feel like you know everyone, but there's also new faces and we're always cooking,” owner Sebastian Fernandez said. “We're just having a good time, no matter what.”
This restaurant is a dream Sebastian has had cooking for as long as he could remember.
Last year, he kindled Hearth, along with wife, Kellie Fernandez, and best friend and business partner, Sergio Chavez.
“It's just been much more rewarding and life-giving than any of us could have ever imagined,” Chavez said.
Mexican, Venezuelan and Italian-inspired dishes can all be found on the menu.
But Hearth is probably most known for its woodfired pizzas.
We got started with the best-selling hot honey.
Fresh out the oven, bite into pepperoni, red peppers, plenty of cheese, and of course, the drizzle of honey.
Mark my words, the margherita pizza is also a must.
I loved the arepas, too. It’s a traditional cornmeal sandwich with carnitas and queso fresco.
Big Caeser salads, and Sebastian sold me on the crispy potatoes with the salsa matcha aioli.
Kellie brings a degree in nutrition to the table, and is grateful Moorpark recognizes the intentionally-sourced local and organic ingredients.
“So honored that people would wanna feature us and would wanna show our restaurant,” Kellie said. “It's been such a special experience this past year, really getting to create this space for the community.”
“Moorpark is one of the coolest towns,” Sebastian said. “I mean, i think the more we're in Moorpark, the more we fall in love with it.”
In a relaxed space filled with vintage art, music and greenery, you can come by Hearth for coffee or tea from 8 a.m. until noon.
Hearth serves lunch starting at noon, and dinner at 5 p.m.
The restaurant is open Tuesday through Saturday. Walk-ins are welcome, but reservations are encouraged and available on Resy.
Hearth is at 330 Zachary St. #109, in Moorpark.
