Temecula burglar strikes victim on head with shovel

TEMECULA, Calif. (KABC) -- A suspect struck a woman in the head with a folding shovel during an attempted burglary in Temecula Saturday morning, Riverside County sheriff's deputies said.

Deputies responding to a home in the 44800 block of Tehachapi Pass around 5:14 a.m. were radioed about another attempted break-in nearby.

The female victim in the second home was allegedly asleep when she awoke to find Gabriel Jimenez Ramirez, 18, of Perris in her bedroom. Ramirez allegedly struck the woman with the shovel as she awoke.

Deputies set up a perimeter and found Ramirez. He was booked for suspicion of two counts of attempted burglary, one count of assault with a deadly weapon and being under the influence of a controlled substance.
