Torrance ExxonMobil to reopen Monday

TORRANCE, Calif. (KABC) -- Residents in Torrance were on edge Sunday morning as the ExxonMobil refinery was gearing up to be fully operational once again.

But there has already been minor setbacks after the plant was originally supposed to go online Saturday night.

According to Torrance police, the company ran into unexpected problems, forcing it to push the reopening to Monday. The start-up was expected to begin between 7 p.m. Monday and 7 a.m. Tuesday.

Air quality officials will be on hand to monitor pollution levels near the refinery.

The plant hasn't been fully operational since February 2015 after a massive explosion injured four people and crippled the refinery's pollution control system.
