TUSTIN, Calif. (KABC) -- Orange County Sheriff's Department deputies detained a man after a small explosion at a home in Tustin.

Neighbors in the 12700 block of Newport Avenue reported hearing a loud boom around 9 a.m., officials said.

Responding deputies interviewed and detained a homeowner at the location. They say they found debris from what looked like an explosion in the rear of a unit in the condominium complex. The bomb squad was called in and they say they found a pipe bomb and other potentially explosive materials.

Newport Avenue was closed in both directions from Wass Street to Warren Avenue as officials investigated.

Officials say it is possible the 38-year-old man may be linked to a handful of small explosions that have occurred in the Tustin area over the last few weeks. He is expected to face charges of possessing explosive materials.
