Flood waters close Sepulveda Basin in LA

ENCINO, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The El Nino rain flooded several streets through the Sepulveda Basin as the Los Angeles River flowed at a tremendous rate on Tuesday.

Rising water closed the Sepulveda Basin and even trapped one driver who was forced to climb out his window and jump to safety.

When the Los Angeles area gets bursts of rain it's been known to create havoc.

Some residents said they are frustrated as their streets consistently flood with strong rains.

"Here we go again. And I've been calling prior, three, four months ago. I called the city, I've been trying to work with the councilman, there's nothing to be done. That's what they told me," Zeev Perez in Encino said.

The City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works said no major problems have been reported in the latest round of rain on Tuesday.

Before the storms hit, crews were busy removing debris from storm drains.

"We've cleaned out 40,000 storm drains from our public works department. We've gone out there and made sure that we had sand bags for the people of Los Angeles at our fire departments," Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti said during a press conference on Tuesday.
