The National Weather Service has issued a "particularly dangerous situation" red flag warning for parts of L.A. and Ventura counties on Wednesday.

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Although winds have peaked and will continue to lose intensity through Wednesday evening, fire danger remains in Southern California as dry conditions and locally gusty winds will linger into Thursday -- especially in some of the mountain areas.

The National Weather Service warned that although conditions improved, the region was "not quite out of the woods yet." The agency urged residents to "stay aware of your surroundings," adding that the Santa Ana winds will still be "strong enough to potentially cause explosive fire growth."

A "particularly dangerous situation" red flag warning expired at p.m. Wednesday. A more general red flag warning will remain in effect until 6 p.m., except for the windiest mountain locations, where the warning will not expire until 3 p.m. Thursday.

Although an area of low pressure is expected this weekend, no significant rain is in the forecast.
