LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Another warm day is on tap in Southern California Thursday, but a big drop in temperatures is expected in a few days.

Cooler air starts making its way to California late in the week, bringing fall-like conditions back to the region early next week.

On Thursday, Los Angeles and Orange counties will reach an afternoon high of 81 after the morning clouds dissipate. Temperatures will be in the 70s this weekend.

The valleys and Inland Empire Thursday will be sunny and warm, with a high of 86 on tap. Similar weather is expected through the weekend, but cooler conditions arrive Monday when temperatures dip below 70.

The beaches Thursday can expect morning clouds and afternoon sunshine, with a high of 69.

Mountains Thursday will reach a high of 72, dropping to a cold 37 overnight. Conditions will mostly be sunny.

The desert areas Thursday can expect to be in the upper 80s. Strong winds return Sunday.
