More women take drugs for heart disease

(KABC) A review of prescriptions for 2.5 million Americans shows the use of cholesterol-lowering drugs by women ages 20- to 44-years-old. The use of high blood pressure drugs by young women also rose by more than 17 percent.

High cholesterol and high blood pressure can lead to heart disease.

Health advocates say the findings indicate the medical community is finally recognizing heart disease as the leading killer of women, and treating patients accordingly.
