New report details value of potassium

Foods rich in potassium could cut the risk of developing high blood pressure, according to a new report.The report analyzed vegetarian diets high in fruits and vegetables in isolated populations.

The report says potassium could also reduce hypertension in Americans by ten percent. The average American diet is high in sodium and only contains about half the potassium needed.

The report appears in the Journal of Clinical Hypertension.
