"We barely even have money to get anything we want, so trying to get the best," said Gus Vargas, who was waiting in line.
The Fred Jordan Mission said they expect to help about 5,000 kids with back-to-school clothes and supplies. For 20 years, the mission has given away, shoes, clothing and school supplies to thousands.
"They're lined up because one, they don't have a lot of money, these families. They can't afford to buy their kids shoes from Foot Locker," said Peter Jordan from Fred Jordan Mission.
Jordan said the mission has helped about 100,000 kids in the 20 years since they started the giveaway.
