Excess caffeine may cause hallucations

January 15, 2009 8:02:12 AM PST
A new study suggests that drinking a lot of caffeine can cause hallucinations.Researchers found that people with a high caffeine intake, about seven cups of instant coffee, six cups of strong tea or nine colas, can be vulnerable to hearing voices and seeing things that aren't there.

Researchers say caffeine can cause the body to release a stress hormone called Cortisol, which may increase the chance of hallucinations.
