Study: CT scans expose to radiation

CT scans can save lives, but a new study finds they also expose patients to a high dose of radiation.Patients getting a CT scan for heart disease can receive a dose of radiation equivalent to 600 chest X-rays.

While the chance of developing cancer from a heart CT scan is very slim, researchers hope the study brings awareness to ways of minimizing that exposure, such as reducing voltage.
