Surveillance video showed a man dropping off the baby at Olympia Medical Center in Mid-City on Saturday night.
Police now say they have interviewed that man, who claims he found the baby and decided to drop her off at the hospital. The mother said she does not know the unidentified man.
The baby's mother says she took the infant to the home of the child's biological father on Saturday night. They are not married, but they have a custody agreement, and the child was supposed to have a visit with his father.
The mother was apparently unaware that anything had happened to her child.
"She was shocked. She thought her baby was fine," said LAPD Det. Ronald Cade. "When she saw it on TV, she was just overwhelmed."
The woman is not suspected in the child's abandonment.
Police said they want to speak to the father, and the case is still under investigation.
