LOS ANGELES --
It has been more than a week since the city elections, but Tuesday night Paul Koretz declared victory in the race for the Los Angeles City Council district 5.Koretz declared victory after Los Angeles County officials put him ahead of his rival by more than 700 votes.
Koretz has 50.98 percent of the vote to David "Ty" Vahedi's 49.02 percent.
Vahedi, an Iranian-American attorney is also a neighborhood council member. Koretz replaces Councilman Jack Weiss, who lost his bid to become the Los Angeles City Attorney.
The former state assemblyman and takes office July 1st, representing the district that ranges from Cheviot Hills to Encino.
