Thrift shops give high-end options

PASADENA Nan Marchand just bought a designer jacket and shoes.

"I'm really happy," said Marchand. "I don't think my husband will mind, either."

That's probably because "Clothes Heaven" is a designer re-sale store.

Owner Lorraine Brannon's collection comes from wealthy women across the country, some who only like to wear things once, if that. Some of the clothes still have the original tags on them.

"You get something more for your money when you come here," said shopper Sharon Mintie. "I wouldn't buy this in the store, but I'll buy it here because it's affordable."

"Now it's in to brag how much you save on clothes, so people all across the board are shopping designer re-sale now who wouldn't necessarily before," said Brannon.

From the Chanel bags to sneakers and jeans, people are trading in their old clothes, and buying something new.

"I have stuff on hold at the counter," said Tanish Kohn. "A whole bunch of dresses, and they're Betsey Johnson and they're like 38 or 40 bucks."

And that, says Kohn, is affordable even in a recession.
