Anaheim firefighters responded and contacted Anaheim police, who in turn requested the sheriff's bomb squad. The recycling center was evacuated as a precaution, Martinez said.
The bomb squad deputies determined two of the devices were inert and not a danger, while one appeared to be "live ordnance," Martinez said.
Marine Corps explosives experts from Camp Pendleton were called. They determined the live device was a 10-pound smoke bomb or "smoke ordnance," said Anaheim Police Sgt. Tim Schmidt, who conferred with Marines at the recycling center.
The smoke device was to be taken to an Irvine county landfill tonight to be detonated, Schmidt said.
