Numbers by Shoppertrak Research Firm show sales on Black Friday rose slightly, by .5 percent over last year.
Retailers are hoping that, at the very least, the numbers remain steady throughout the shopping season.
But the National Retail Federation Trade Group is not optimistic.
It's forecasting a decline of 1 percent for holiday sales from last year.
