La Palma named state's best affordable suburb

LA PALMA, Calif. Bloomberg selected one city in each state as the best example of affordability and quality of life.

Some of the communities in the 2010 list are near country clubs and golf courses, but Bloomberg says the focus was not on luxury.

The list wanted communities where families can live well for less and enjoy good schools, low crime and reasonable commutes.

The suburbs were limited to towns within 25 miles of the most populated city in the state, with populations between 5,000 and 60,000, with median family incomes of $51,000 to $120,000 and lower-than-average crime rates.

La Palma Mayor, Steve Shanahan says he's honored and that La Palma is a close-knit community with lots of spirit.

In 2007, Money Magazine selected La Palma as one of America's best places to live.
