Five charged in deadly Compton armed robbery

COMPTON, Calif. The five defendants are accused of taking part in a robbery April 5 at "Custom Auto Sales in Compton." Two victims were fatally shot at the location. A third victim was hospitalized with gunshot wounds, but is expected to survive.

Shortly after the shooting deputies stopped a van matching the description of the suspect vehicle and took six people into custody. Prosecutors say minutes after the arrest one of the six suffered a fatal heart attack. That death has now been added to the charges.

The defendants are identified as Devin Lamont Lewis, 41, Paul Jordan, 40, Sorporn Dana Kol, 23, Sophorn Moeum, 18, and Chendareth Tony Meas, 19. Arraignment is scheduled at Compton Superior Court.

The defendants are charged with three counts of murder with special circumstances, plus counts of robbery. The defendants face a maximum penalty of death or life in prison without parole.
