Two Montebello police officers fatally shot an armed robbery suspect Sunday. The officers were put on administrative leave.Daniel Garcia, 32, was shot to death Sunday in the 500 block of Emmett Williams Way. Investigators say Garcia used a knife to rob someone at a cash machine near Sixth Street and Whittier Boulevard at around 6:30 p.m.

Police say an eyewitness to the robbery chased Garcia and called police.

When officers responded, they found the suspect hiding in a trash bin. The officers told the man to lie on the ground, and when he didn't respond, they used a Taser on him.

Police say the suspect then advanced with a knife, and officers responded by opening fire.

The L.A. County Sheriff's Department, which routinely investigates officer-involved shootings in the county's smaller municipal police departments, is investigating the incident.
