Memorial service held for slain Moreno teen

July 28, 2010 12:00:00 AM PDT
A memorial service was held Wednesday for Norma Lopez, who was abducted and murdered nearly two weeks ago in Moreno Valley. A reward is still being offered for the arrest of her killer.A rosary and closed-casket viewing was held Wednesday afternoon at Saint Christopher Catholic Church in a massive showing of support.

The community is still very much in mourning.

Lopez was a summer school student at Valley View High School in Moreno Valley. She was walking home to a friend's house after school almost two weeks ago when she was abducted in a vacant field just around the corner from the school. Then, six days later her body was found about two and a half miles away.

Police still aren't saying much about how she was killed, nor are they giving clues as to how close they are to coming up with a suspect. There is a reward of more than $35,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case.

The Riverside County Sheriff's Department's central homicide unit is still conducting interviews and still following up on a number of leads.

Family, friends and even people who didn't know 17-year-old Norma Lopez attended Wednesday's memorial.

"I feel bad for the family because I know it's hard for them right now, the situation," said attendee Milton Martinez. "That's why we came over here to give her support."

"I just think everyone should come here to help them support the family so that they know we are here for them," said attendee Rebecca Martinez.

If you have information related to the case, you're asked to call (877) 242-4345.
