31-lb cocaine haul seized along Highway 78

BLYTHE, Calif. The suspects entered the border checkpoint around 3 p.m. in a 1999 Dodge Dakota. As border agents spoke with the driver and passenger, the canine inspection team signaled that narcotics may be hidden in the vehicle.

Upon deeper inspection, agents discovered 13 plastic-wrapped bundles of cocaine stacked inside of a hidden compartment behind the vehicle's firewall. The estimated street value of the haul is approximately $1 million.

The suspects were arrested and turned over to the /*Drug Enforcement Administration*/ along with the vehicle and the cocaine.

This is the third cocaine seizure in under a week at this particular checkpoint. A week ago, agents seized a total of 44 pounds of cocaine and 4 pounds of methamphetamine in two separate incidents.
