Lost hiker found safe in White Water

CABAZON, Calif. According to the /*Riverside County Sheriff's Department*/ Cabazon Station, 30-year-old Kaliph Chenevert of Desert Hot Springs had been hiking north of the Whitewater Nature Preserve with his family on Sunday when they got separated.

Chenevert had minimal hiking experience and very little water with him.

A rescue unit was dispatched, along with a sheriff's helicopter and bloodhound, to try to locate Chenevert.

Residents on Cecil Drive in Whitewater called law enforcement, saying a suspicious person was knocking on doors. It turned out to be Chenevert.

He said he had a sore ankle from walking several miles in the darkness but declined medical treatment.
