WASHINGTON --
On one of the heaviest days of Internet holiday shopping, federal agents on Cyber Monday shut down 82 websites suspected of offering illegal downloads of copyrighted material, including music, videos and software. Those domain names were seized after federal law enforcement agents made undercover purchases from online retailers and confirming that the items sold were counterfeit or infringed on copyrights.
Some other counterfeit goods sold include sports equipment, shoes, handbags, athletic apparel and sunglasses.
Most of the counterfeit goods are produced and shipped from China, officials said.
The Cyber Monday crackdown includes five websites in the Los Angeles area:
- torrent-finder.com
- rapgodfathers.com
- rmx4u.com
- dajaz1.com
- onsmash.com
