State fines seven largest insurance companies

California's seven largest health insurance companies allegedly aren't paying doctors and hospitals fairly or on time.

Monday, the state announced six-figure fines for Anthem Blue Cross, Anthem Blue Shield, United-PacifiCare, Health Net, Kaiser, Cigna and Aetna.

The state says the companies have been filing a high rate of improper claims and the problem is burdening many health providers who are struggling to stay afloat in this bad economy.
