Exercise increases volume in aging brains?

Experts say that exercising may be able to actually help you pump up your brain.

Our brains shrink as we age, and the area most affected is the hippocampus, which relates to memory.

But experts say that exercising may be able to actually help you pump up your brain.

Researchers assigned 120 older adults to either an aerobics or stretching program for a year.

Those who walked 40 minutes three times a week had a 2-percent increase in the hippocampus area, while those who just did stretching actually lost brain volume by about 1 percent.
