New images of San Francisco after the 1906 earthquake have been released like never before - in color.

The Smithsonian Institution discovered the rare photos.

They were taken by famed photographer Frederick Ives and show parts of the city, just months after the quake.

The photos give insight into what San Francisco looked like more than 100 years ago. Before the discovery, images were all in black and white.
