The boy had borrowed his parents' van for an ill-advised trip to the convenience store, but slammed head-on into her vehicle.
"He said, 'my mom and dad are going to be really upset. You know, I just want to go get a candy bar from the convenience store,'" said Tammy Belau. "At some point he said to me while the officer was taking photographs, 'I'm hungry. There is some food in the van. Are you hungry too?' Of course my answer was yes, but I couldn't tell him that."
She said things could have ended much worse if the boy had reached a busy intersection. Nobody was injured in the accident.
