Driver arrested in fatal Lancaster hit-run

LANCASTER, Calif.

Deputies manning a /*DUI*/ checkpoint on 10th Street West and Avenue J-8 on Friday night stopped Isidro Peralta of Littlerock in his 1996 Ford Mustang because he appeared to be under the influence.

The car had what looked like fresh blood on the front bumper and windshield and a broken headlight. Nearby, deputies found a man lying in the middle of the road.

Paramedics could not revive the man, and he died at the scene. The victim's name was not immediately released.

Peralta was booked on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter, felony hit-and-run and felony driving under the influence, said officials.
