'Thor' tops box office for 2nd straight week

LOS ANGELES

"Thor" pulled away to take the top spot for the second straight week, earning $34.5 million. That brings its total haul to more than $119 million.

Coming in a solid second was the raunchy comedy "Bridesmaids" starring Kristen Wiig.

The Universal film pulled in a better-than-expected $24.4 million in its debut weekend.

Analysts say the movie is benefiting from strong reviews and good word of mouth.

The top 10 movies of the weekend were:

1. "Thor," $34.5 million.

2. "Bridesmaids," $24.4 million.

3. "Fast Five," $19.5 million.

4. "Priest," $14.5 million.

5. "Rio," $8 million.

6. "Jumping the Broom," $7.3 million.

7. "Something Borrowed," $7 million.

8. "Water for Elephants," $4.1 million.

9. "Tyler Perry's Madea's Big Happy Family," $2.2 million.

10. "Soul Surfer," $1.8 million.
