Fullerton man arrested for fatal alley fight

FULLERTON, Calif.

Jason Baird, 24, was arrested Monday. He was held at the Fullerton City Jail on a murder charge on $1 million bail.

According to the Fullerton Police Dept., the victim, 31-year-old Long Beach resident Brian Williams, and a friend went to a party at a residence on Chapman Ave. in Fullerton at about 2 a.m. Sunday.

Baird and several others were at the party drinking alcohol. Police say after an hour, an argument prompted Williams and his friend to be asked to leave.

Police say Baird and others followed Williams and his friend into a nearby alley, where Baird and Williams began fighting. Baird allegedly punched Williams in the face, causing Williams to fall backwards and strike his head on the pavement.

Williams passed out. He was taken to a couch at a friend's house. At about 10 a.m., Williams was found not breathing. The Fullerton Fire Dept. was called, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police interviews led to the identification and arrest of Baird.
