Belize resident arrested for entering home, attempting rape

HAWTHORNE, Calif.

Officers found two males in a physical struggle inside an apartment at the location, according to police. Witnesses identified one of the two males as an intruder. The suspect resisted detainment, according to police.

The other male was released after police determined he was attempting to help the apartment's residents.

A 13-year-old girl had been sitting outside talking on the phone when the male suspect approached her and began to talk to her. The girl ignored the suspect, went inside the apartment and closed the door.

The suspect allegedly entered the apartment uninvited. The girl went into a bedroom where her 34-year-old mother and 2-year-old sister were.

The suspect entered the bedroom and allegedly attempted to physically force himself on the mother, according to police. The teen girl fled the residence and asked a passerby to call police, according to the department.

Police say another neighborhood resident went into the apartment to help the girl's mother, resulting in the struggle officers encountered upon their arrival. Police say the woman's voice could be heard calling out for help as they arrived.

Police arrested the intruder, Lirisi Arzu, a 22-year-old Belize resident, on suspicion of assault with intent to commit rape, attempted rape, false imprisonment and burglary.

The girl's mother sustained minor injuries not requiring hospitalization.

Suspect Arzu reportedly injured himself when he punched the walls of his cell at the Hawthorne Police Dept., according to police.
