He says his experience has made him want to give back to others, so he volunteers at the Union Rescue Mission in downtown Los Angeles.
"I know how it is to get kicked out of your house and have nowhere else to go. I know how it feels. You just imagine you're in their shoes," said Maurice.
He has already faced many challenges in his young life. Maurice has made good decisions and avoided the wrong choices and wants other young people to know they can do the same.
"Don't go down that bad path. Don't listen to it. Don't be influenced by it. Just go down the great, straight path and you will see that you can succeed," he advised.
Maurice has his own plans to get himself on the path to success.
"I want to go on to college. I want to get a great education. I want to keep on going through it, learn a lot for my career that I want to get into, game designing," he said.
In spite of the negative things he's seen, Maurice keeps a strong positive attitude.
Maurice is our Cool Kid, who has overcome great obstacles in his life. Now, he is doing more to help others facing challenges of their own.
