A demolished car dangled off a bridge over a 100-foot drop on Highway 101 in Santa Barbara. Inside the car were Kelli Lynn Groves and her two daughters - one of them just 10 weeks old.
A big rig truck rear-ended the BMW moments before it plunged into the creek and burst into flames. The truck driver, Charles Allison Jr., was killed instantly.
The Groves struggled to get free as rescue workers fought to save them. Those workers told their story to ABC's /*Good Morning America*/.
"Just the teamwork and the members standing behind me, they're so spectacular," said one rescuer. "And the courage, their skill, all came together and we all focused on rescuing those inside the trapped vehicle."
After a terrifying 2 1/2 hours, the family was airlifted to a local hospital.
The family is expected to survive.
