A Ventura man was arrested after police caught him allegedly stealing gardening equipment from a home.

Ventura police officers received a tip from a concerned resident who reported seeing a suspicious vehicle park in an alley behind the Shores Motel on the 1000 block of Seaward Avenue at 3:30 a.m. on Friday.

The caller said a man got of that vehicle and appeared to be casing homes in the 1000 block of Montauk Lane.

Responding officers spotted 45-year-old Alan Rogers of Ventura exiting a residential driveway with gardening equipment in hand. Upon being detained, Rogers admitted that he took the equipment from a storage closet of a home.

Officers searching Rogers found drugs on him.

He was arrested and booked into the Ventura County Jail for residential burglary and possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.
