United Airlines renamed a commercial flight from Chicago to Los Angeles "Oscar 1" in honor of its tiniest and most famous passenger.

Oscar had his own boarding pass and a major entourage, and he even got to tour the cockpit before taking off from Chicago's O'Hare International Airport.

The pilot of the 757 called the statuette his most prestigious "non-human" passenger yet.

Tom Sherak, president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and other officials personally escorted 42 of the coveted trophies to Beverly Hills. The Oscars will be carefully guarded by the Academy until the big day.

The awards ceremony will air live on Sunday, Feb. 26, 2012 on ABC7. Coverage begins at noon PT.
