Malibu to pay $1M settlement over water contamination lawsuit

MALIBU, Calif.

The lawsuit was filed in response to chronic bacteriological contamination of Malibu Lagoon and Surfrider Beach.

Under the settlement, Malibu will pay $750,000 to the Natural Resources Defense Council and Santa Monica Baykeeper. It will also allocate $250,000 for the city's Ocean Health Water Assessment Project.

Since the lawsuit was filed, the city has opened several new storm water treatment facilities.
