Thanksgiving Day shoppers get deals before Black Friday

LOS ANGELES

K-Mart in Burbank opened its doors at 6 a.m., and within 30 minutes there were already long lines at every cash register. Shoppers camped out in the cold just to get a good deal.

"This was really worth it. I didn't need no sleep for this. I saved $616," said shopper Mireya Gaona, who bought four $97 32" flat screen TVs from K-Mart. "I'm feeling good. I'm really happy and excited, but I'm kind of tired too."

Walmart and Sears opened at 8 p.m. Thursday. Target and Toys "R" Us opened at 9 p.m. Best Buy, Macy's and Kohl's opened at midnight. The Ontario Mills shopping mall also opened its doors Thursday night to crowds of eager shoppers.

Economists predict a busy holiday shopping season for retailers, because they anticipate people spending more cash than they did last year.

Stores are offering more layaway plans and other programs to entice buyers. Economists also say /*Black Friday*/ has turned into a family event.
