Danny Kim, 28, of Arcadia was found around 7:30 p.m. with a laceration on his head, but was alert and answering questions, authorities said. He was transported by helicopter to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center.
Kim was with two companions when he was last seen around 4:30 p.m. Saturday in the Bear Creek Trail area of the forest. The hikers were separated and Kim had not been seen since. Kim was wearing lightweight clothing and had no flashlight, food or water with him.
"He took a fall down a waterfall, but it put him real close to a road," said Dave Little of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. "He got up from that and basically was walking down one of the roads we've been patrolling trying to find him and we came across him with one of our vehicles."Authorities said Kim had taken a 50-foot fall off a waterfall, then walked out to Fork Road.
Overnight temperatures dropped to the single digits in the mountain areas.
"I will say, for what he's gone through in the last 24 hours, he's in remarkably good shape," Little said.
