Lynwood clerk shot, killed in store; suspect sought

LYNWOOD, Calif.

Many in the neighborhood say they grew up seeing the clerk, a woman in her 50s. Police are not releasing the identity of the woman, but neighbors say she often worked alone in the store.

"That's probably why they took advantage of the situation because she was always by herself," said Jennifer Huizar.

Police say she was shot multiple times in the torso. The call came in around 3:30 p.m. when a customer entered the store in the 11000 block of South Alameda Street and found her body. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Customers say she was always happy and always friendly. As family arrived at the scene, police were still trying to determine who was behind the crime, and if there was any surveillance video.
