The intense search to find a missing northern California girl with autism resumed Tuesday.

The small community of Clearlake, northwest of Sacramento, has mobilized hundreds of volunteers to find 9-year-old Mikaela Lynch.

Mikaela was last seen Sunday afternoon in the fenced backyard of her family's vacation home in the Highlands neighborhood. Her brother was watching her but ran inside after he was spooked by a swarm of bees. She was gone when he returned.

The little girl cannot speak or call back to searchers. Officials said she has the mental capacity of a 1-year-old.

Her home has water on three sides but Mikaela cannot swim. Investigators were told she often removed her clothes when she was hot. Articles of clothing were found in the yard.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
