Authorities responded to a stabbing call at a home in the 2300 block of North Davidson Avenue just after 6 p.m. Police say Jorge Palomo used a knife or an axe to attack his family members.
His 61-year-old sister-in-law, Ana Maria Ramirez, was rushed to a local hospital, where she later died. Palomo's wife and a child were taken to an area hospital with injuries.
Investigators say Palomo tried to set the house on fire. A neighbor called 911 after a teenager ran out of her house, asking for help.
When officers arrived, they saw a man standing in the yard, holding a knife. Palomo was taken into custody.
The motive for the attack is being investigated.
