LAX agent among 3 brothers charged in gun case

SANTA ANA, Calif.

Maralit, 48, of Garden Grove is one of three brothers charged in an international arms trafficking case.

His brother Rex, a New York policeman, also made his first court appearance in New York Friday.

The search continues for a third brother, Ariel. Federal prosecutors believe he is hiding in the Philippines.

The three are charged with conspiring to export high-powered weapons from the U.S. to the Philippines without a license from the U.S. State Department, as well as conspiring to engage in unlicensed firearms dealing.

Ariel would allegedly provide guns to overseas buyers in the Philippines. His two older brothers would allegedly acquire and ship the weapons overseas which he would then sell.

Investigators say the older brothers used their law enforcement credentials to obtain high-powered military-grade assault and sniper rifles.

The three brothers face up to five years in prison for each charge.
