Underground bomb shelter sales up, company says

MONTEBELLO, Calif.

There's a new customized survival shelter with all comforts of home that could save your life. Ron Hubbard of Atlas Survival Shelters came up with the idea three years ago, knowing the market was prime for selling large scale protection.

"Nuclear fallout, chemical warfare, biological warfare -- it's a place to hoard your food supplies in case you're worried about civil unrest," said Hubbard. "It's just like a home except you're 20 feet underground and the zombies won't get you."

Made of corrugated pipe, Hubbard says the shelters are a copy of a proven military design. They come with an air filtration system and generator, as well as full bathrooms, laundry machines, big screen TVs and even a hot tub if you want. The shelters range in price from $35,000 to $85,000.

"If the missiles would have flown in the '60s, those who had bomb shelters would have made it, those who didn't wouldn't have," said Hubbard.

Hubbard says business is booming, no pun intended. Sales have gone global with shelters being shipped from Isreal to Australia. He says there's a waiting list until June of next year.
