Murder suspect in custody after Garden Grove standoff

GARDEN GROVE, Calif.

The three-hour standoff with Leonbardo Valladares, 43, began around midnight. The Orange County Sheriff's Department began looking for him earlier this week in the death of Francisco Torres, a 48-year-old father who was shot several times outside the Oasis Bar in Stanton early Sunday morning.

Investigators say the victim got into some sort of altercation outside the bar before the shots were fired. Detectives say Valladares ran away on foot.

Valladares was located Thursday night in Garden Grove. It is unclear if the suspect lived inside the home or if he was visiting. He was said to be uncooperative.

"He wasn't communicating with deputies, they surrounded the house, they were able to remove other people that were inside the house prior to the SWAT team actually surrounding the location," said Orange County Sheriff's Lt. Jeff Hallock. "When negotiations were occurring with our CNT team, we were pretty confident that he was the only individual inside the residence."

Valladares is in custody. He will be charged with murder, with other charges pending.

The investigation is ongoing.
