17 dogs, 1 cat seized from Alhambra home after complaints of foul odor

ALHAMBRA, Calif.

Authorities removed 17 dogs and a cat after serving an inspection warrant at the home on the 100 block of Meridian Avenue. The animals were found to be living in unsanitary conditions.

"They surrounded the house. Eventually no one answered. They had a battering ram. They broke down the front door," said neighbor Jeffrey Gomez. "They said it smelled really bad. They made a point to come outside and let the air out. They opened up all the windows. They said it was pretty deplorable conditions."

Gomez says the owner of the animals is Claudia Gall. Gall was not home at the time of the seizure and has not been arrested. Animal control officials told Eyewitness News they are checking the condition of the dogs and cat and will determine in the next two weeks whether to file criminal charges against her.

Gall's estranged husband told Eyewitness News that Gall still lives at the home, but he moved out a year ago.
