Authorities said a big rig was stopped in traffic due to a nearby accident when the gray Lexus slammed into the back of the big rig at about 3 a.m. The driver of the Lexus was declared dead at the scene.
Investigators believe the Lexus was traveling at a high rate of speed, and there were no skid marks seen on the roadway.
Drivers were urged to avoid the area, as the investigation into the crash continued at the scene. The 101 South reopened at about 6:30 a.m.
