Grandma becomes social media star by sharing her inspiring Holocaust survival story

MORRISTOWN, N.J. -- Tova Friedman and her grandson Aron Goodman have built up a massive online following by sharing Tova's story of survival from the Holocaust and teaching lessons about Jewish history.

"When we were liberated, I was six and a half," Tova explains. "I just sort of feel, 'wow, I survived. That's great. What can I do?' I felt a complete obligation to talk, and I feel I represent the children who can't talk for themselves."

"The fact that my grandmother is able to live through such horrific events and overcome it and then live a prosperous life," Aron reflects. "It's amazing how someone can overcome such darkness and bring new life into the world."

Together, they are changing perceptions and using social media to help new generations learn about Jewish history.

"The Jewish community alone cannot fight antisemitism," Aron says, explaining why he runs the account. "And we need help from all sides, like Miep in 'A Small Light.'"

Miep Gies, the central figure in National Geographic's new series 'A Small Light' was the heroic woman who hid Anne Frank and others from the Nazis during World War II.

Speaking about Miep's legacy and impact, Tova says,"you can see how one person, in a sense, changed history."

"We all have to have enough faith in ourselves that 'we can do,' and we should at least try," she concludes.
